We recently did a short survey with some of our long-time clients in the Dallas area and asked for their feedback on which areas they hated cleaning the most. If you have your own pet peeve of chores that you utterly despise, you won’t be surprised by the answers we got. Below are the results of our survey, listed from bad to worse! These are places that homeowners always seem to neglect.
Toilet – The Thing Our Clients Hate Cleaning The Most
We asked everyone the same two questions:
“What are a few of your least favorite areas to clean?” and
“Out of those areas, which is the worse?”
Interestingly enough, 100% of everyone said cleaning the toilet was one of their least favorite chores.
Our guess is as to why is because most people just don’t enjoy bending over on their hands and knees to clean yellow and brown spills off their porcelain throne.
Go figure!
Unloading and loading the dishwasher
This one surprised us a bit. A majority of customers said they would rather wipe countertops or even sweep the floor than be assigned to loading the dishwasher. When we asked them why they felt that way, their response was interesting. “When you’re unloading multiple items and each one has its own place to go, my brain feels more saturated” was the answer of one husband we talked to. “To me, sweeping an open room has always felt less complicated than unloading and loading the dishwasher.”
How about you?
Does dishwashing duty stress you out more than sweeping or emptying the trash?

Folding and putting away laundry
This was another one that took us back, but it makes sense. Like doing the dishes, most of or customers agreed that all the little steps of folding, hanging up, color coordination, and thinking about where everyone’s clothes went, was just as saturating as loading/unloading the dishwasher.
There are a few methods to helping make folding laundry easier though. People like Marie Kondo have helped people turn folding into fun.

Scrubbing the oven
When you find out your oven doesn’t have a self-cleaning option, you can almost feel the pain creeping up on your back and your knees.
Ugh – ovens made it to number two and we can understand why:
– It’s hard on the back
– It’s hard on the knees
– It requires tons of elbow grease and scrubbing
Razor blades and oven-cleaning products can help make it a little easier, but it’s still a dreaded chore and doesn’t make the task any easier.
And for the number one most awful area to clean on our list is:
Window Blinds
Yep. More people would rather scrub the toilet or clean the oven than mess with the window blinds. The customers we talked to made it clear that dusting the blinds wasn’t the issue, so much as finding an efficient way to wipe them clean.
The worst types of blinds to clean are the smaller aluminum type. They can easily bend out of place and are tough to wipe between. We’ve had some people cut themselves by accident cleaning these types, so be careful!
That does it for our survey.
