Your kitchen is an area in your home that can quickly become cluttered before you know it. From being a place to drop mail or other loose ends, kitchens seem to be a magnet for clutter. We put together a few tips to make sure that you keep kitchen clutter at bay.
Plan out your tasks
Decluttering can be an overwhelming task. Before you start, take the time to list out the tasks that need to be completed. This can be a simple checklist, or you could break down your tasks and put them on a calendar. The best part of making is a checklist or putting items on a calendar is that you can cross them off when they are complete.
Clean out your refrigerator and freezer
A good first task is to clean out your fridge and freezer. Go through each item and throw away everything that has expired or that looks a bit sketchy. Remove the drawers and shelves and wash them with soapy water. If they fit, you can put them in the dishwasher. Additionally, wipe out the interior of both the freezer and refrigerator. Once you are done with the interior, wipe down the exterior. To keep your fridge and freezer clean wipe out the inside at least weekly.
Clean your cabinets and drawers
When is the last time that you cleaned out your junk drawer? Items seem to go in the drawer and mysteriously never come out. Empty out this drawer and go through everything that is in there. Only keep the items that you love or absolutely need. Everything else can be thrown away.
Organize Small Appliances and Tools
Once you have cleaned out your large appliances and cabinets, now look at your smaller appliances and other kitchen tools. Remember that pasta maker that you were sure that you were going to use all the time? Unless you are actually making pasta regularly, then it is time to get rid of it. Go through all of your kitchen tools and small appliances and donate the ones that you are no longer (or never were) using.
Clean Out Under the Kitchen Sink
Make sure the only items you need are under the kitchen sink. This is an area where items often end up and are forgotten about. Dispose of any of the items that you don’t truly need to free up space down there.
